Hugh Ross

Actor & Director

Hugh Ross has had along and distinguished career as an actor (and occasional director) in

theatre, film, radio and television.


Movie credits notably include Clive Barker’s ‘Nightbreed’ as Narcisse, which has quite lately

become a cult horror classic; and cameo roles in ‘Trainspotting’, ‘Patriot Games’, ‘Charlotte Gray’, and as Uncle Jack in ‘Bronson’ with Tom Hardy.


On television he has most recently been seen as a regular character, Arch Bug, in ‘Outlander’; and is remembered as Major Mungo Munro in three of the ‘Sharpe’ stories with Sean Bean. 


Other appearances include ‘Midsomer Murders’, ‘Poirot’, ‘Absolutely Fabulous’, and many more.

He has acted with the RSC, the National Theatre, and in the West End, where he was nominated for an Olivier Award for his performance in Stephen Sondheim’s ‘Passion’.


At the Park Theatre in London he directed a production of JB Priestley’s ‘The Roundabout’ which then successfully ran at 59th East 59th Street in New York.
